Just Val d'Isere

Dick’s Tea Bar  will be exactly 30 years old at 11.50 pm on the 31st December 2009. Dick writes “on the left see photo in 1979. The massive opening ceremony at 11.50 pm 31st December 1979 was attended by three people and Mouki  (my brother’s dog!). We closed at half past midnight………

To those people who worked in DTB and left me some years of their lives or to those who partied in DTB and left me half their liver and most of their wallet, my thanks!!

I’m not going to compose a list of people to thank – you’re too numerous. The only person whom I should thank/blame is my brother, John, who actually found the place on his way back from Corsica in early November 1979. Attached is one photo of what the place looked like in November 1979  and a link to about 2,000 photos taken between 1980 and 1994.

La Folie Douce is the self service “turning disco” at 2 pm. You will find delicious, honest dishes, unusually and attractively presented; home made patisseries and soups, the little bread buns are delicious. The only bad points are: the soup was served tepid and there was a supplement for mustard when you buy sausages!  Spaghetti Bolognese, 14.50€, home made soups, 6.90€; dish of the day, 12.79€; puddings, 6.90€. British newspapers of the day on display, free to read.

Beers 4.50€ or 6.50€, waffles 5€, crepes, hot dogs, warm sandwiches 6€.

One permanent event, if you feel home sick, is the fish and chips evening, every Friday, of course (12€)

Banana the well known place in Val d’Isere is not going to be open this season. A fire has destroyed the chalet on Sunday 27 th of November. Eric and Hamid are doing their best to start again next year. We wish them good luck, their place is going to be missed.
