A day in the life of…
January 27th, 2010
- What is your work?
I’m a off piste ski instructor. I consider myself more like a guide who will take his clients safely to the best spots and the best snow.
- What time do you start?
I start skiing at 9 o’clock but we have a briefing with the other guides at 8.15 at the office to talk about the weather, the risks, the safety…
- Where are you from?
I spent 18 years in Lyon, then lived in different ski resorts
- What attracted you to Val d’Isere?
The huge possibilities in off-piste and the high level of the skiers .
- What do you enjoy most in the work?
Giving some pleasure to my clients
- What qualities do you need to do your work?
Knowledge of the mountain and the snow, serenity, enthusiasm …
- What is the worse sort of day ?
Wet weather, wind, no chance of finding good snow, … grumpy clients !
- What is the perfect sort of day?
A cold, day right after a big dump without wind, bad weather to avoid the rush !
- How long is a day’s work?
8 hours, including a good lunch !
- What can make you laugh at work?
Funny clients
- Your best souvenir?
Years ago, I discovered a new fantastic off-piste run which has become a “classic” in Tignes
- Your worse nightmare?
I forgot about it !
- Do you have an other work?
In summer, I’m a wasp killer, I destroy wasps nests
- Where do you go on holiday?
Last summer, I spent a week near Biarritz and a week in Corsica; I like the sea
- Do you have a wish?
I wish it would snow every other night until the rest of the season

Tickets are for sale at the Office du Tourisme for 16€.
For the duration of the tournament works will be available for viewing at the hotel and at Galerie Jane Griffiths in Val d’Isère Village.
The menu is limited and sadly we can’t find anymore the last year selection of wok dishes. This year you will find soups, a Boeuf Bourguignon and more traditional dishes. Excellent wines are sold by the glass starting at 4€. Puddings are equally delicious, we loved the Tiramisu. The welcome has improved from last year with a friendly waiter. SPECIAL OFFER AT LUNCH TIME, if you are 4 people eating, only 3 will pay . HAPPY HOUR, ONE GLASS BOUGHT ONE GLASS OFFERED (not for Champagne)
The menu is limited and priced sensibly, one does not feel taken for a ride, which is a good feeling. We recommend the Wok at 13€ (fish or meat) with a glass of wine at 4€, Brushetta at 9€ salads at 11€. Puddings are equally delicious, we loved the Panna cotta… The service can be a bit slow some days.
