The iPhone breaks new ground in the mountains.
To get a ski guide in your pocket.
More info : info@readteamproduction.com
Available on the App store for £2.99
The latest technical innovation this skiing season inevitably involves the iPhone. Martin Heckelman and Red Team Productions have recently announced the new Ski Tips series for the iPhone and iPod Touch. SkiTips for the iPhone sets new standards in Sports Instruction, enabling for the first time skiers to take all of their instructional media out on the slopes with them. Specially designed for use on the slopes, these Apps really are innovative, incorporating video, audio & text instruction into one small device.
The Apps, which cost just £2.39 each, are all full-on instructional and cover a huge range of skiing techniques. SkiTips1 teaches all the fundamentals of skiing as well as carved turns & un-weighted turns. SkiTips2 teaches all the advanced techniques, including high speed carving, control turns, bumps, ice & powder, while SkiTips3, covering ‘off-piste’ skiing is planned for a March release. A great little product – your Ski Instructor in your pocket– and for little more than the price of a coffee on the mountain!
You can check the Apps out on the Apple’s AppStore (look under SkiTips1 and SkiTips2) or get lots more info and see some video clips on the web-site redteamproductions.com. You can click here bring you to the AppStore:

A little tip to spice up your spaghetti at home.
- Prepare, in a mortar, a paste made with fresh basil, 1 clove of garlic, olive oil and parsley.
- Once you have cooked (al dente) the spaghetti, transfer them to a frying pan.
- Stir the paste and serve warm.
A really simple way to jazz up a basic dish.

Fab is a ski patrol in Val d’Isere.
Fab, Where are you from?
I am from Grenoble (not very far), I came as a skate board/snowboard instructor at the Club des Sports. That was 20 years ago! I am now married, my wife is a physio and we have a little girl.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The environment, the mountains, the team work and the camaraderie.
What would be a typical intervention?
We receive a call that somebody needs help, we arrive on the site of the accident, evaluate the seriousness of the injury (if a helicopter is needed or not) we prepare the person for evacuation to the surgery/hospital. The process generally lasts around an hour.
Do you have to train?
Yes, every week, we exercise with our beepers constantly to be efficient and quick, we spend time training to rescue with ropes, with the Recco system.
What irritates you most?
When I see people skiing too fast on the beginners’ slopes
What would you call a bad day?
It does not exist, every morning I look forward to going to work
What can make you laugh?
When a skier had a fall because he has put his ski boots on the wrong way round!
A memorable day?
The day I received my ski patrol Diploma (Degree) that was an emotional moment.
Do you have another job?
In Summer, I do vertical access work with ropes on building sites and road works.
A hobby?
My daughter
Where do you go on holidays?
Cornwall, Sweden, Australia, USA, Norway. We go visiting our friends around the world.
Do you have a wish?
The well-being of my family and a happy retirement for my parents who have worked hard all their life.
Do you have a message to skiers?
Humility, Respect….and keep our phone number with you 04 79 06 02 10

Very kindly, Nicolas Ughetto agree to answer our questions:
Where are you from?
One side of my family is from Val d’isere, the other from the north of Italy (Piedmont)
At what time do you start?
We are on duty from 6pm to 6 am.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy helping people when in difficulty
Do you train regularly?
We do have regular training sessions, we have to have a medical check, and a good level of fitness.
What don’t you like in your work?
I don’t enjoy being woken up in the middle of the night because somebody has drunk too much, it happens occasionally and we have to go to Bourg Saint Maurice to the hospital so doctors can keep an eye on the individual.
What is the worst sort of day?
When an intervention ends badly.
What make you laugh in your work?
The circumstances can be very funny, like a call for a bird unable to take off from a tree (it was tangled in a little string) or this guy who took refuge in a tree, chased by a fox… It is difficult to keep a strait face!
A good memory?
To save a person, to know you have avoided a catastrophe, made the difference in between death and life. Sometimes we have the pleasure to see these people again when they come to thank us for our intervention. When a baby arrives before we reach the hospital, it is always a good memory.
Do you have an other job?
I am a buyer for the commune from paper clips to buses, benches, street lights…
Where do you spend your holidays?
In the south of France near a pool or near the sea.
If you had a wish?
We intervene 500 to 600 times during the season, it would be nice if it was better spread during the year.
Do you have a hobby?
Fishing, I forget it all!
Nicolas lives in Val d’Isere, is married with 3 children.
