    Villages around and about

Outside Val d’Isere there are villages worth venturing out to, offering good places to stay or to eat at better value.

    SAINTE  FOY (THE VILLAGE)

Impossible to miss this village as it is on the road to Val d’Isère, about 20 minutes away.

    la grange

Open all year round, for lunch and supper. In a traditional setting with an open fire, wooden tables and stone flooring, the chef offers an original menu with generous portions. Friendly and quiet surrounding. A good combination of imagination and tradition.

    Hotel le Monal

    le monal st foy

A good stop on the way up to Val d’Isere. In Sainte Foy’s village. Comfortable bedrooms and breakfasts. The restaurant on the first floor offers a choice of traditional dishes and broad selection of wines, the service can be a bit slow. In winter, skiers often stop for lunch after a morning skiing in Sainte Foy. Ask for the foie gras maison.

    Santa Fe shop
    Tel: + 33 6 09 51 51 72.

santa fe 3On the main road this shop never seems to close, displaying baskets, pottery and decorative objects. If you are looking for a present for a friend or yourself, this is the place. Many interesting articles at reasonable prices. Nadine, the present owner is the third generation owner in a line of women.  She is so friendly, you are almost sad to leave her.

     LE MIROIR (HAMLET)

A “chocolate box” hamlet near Sainte Foy

    Chez Mery

    Le Miroir
    04 79 06 90 16

mery chemineeAn old farm converted into a restaurant, Chez Mery, is well known by the locals. It takes about 20 mins by car. The surroundings and the food complement each other in creating a successful evening, or lunch during the summer. How to get there: On the D 902 going down to Bourg St Maurice, take the road on the right to La Masure/Le Miroir just before the village of Sainte Foy, for 3km. Reservations are necessary. If you go for supper it is wise to organise a taxi to take you back home to Val d’Isere, the road is narrow and not easy to handle after a good meal. The pool has an amazing view, in summer.
