La Creperie Au Grand Marnier
13-Dec-09 , 0 commentsTel: 00 33 4 79 41 10 37 Opposite the Brasserie du Grand Cocor, with tables outside if you feel like eating in the sun. You can eat quickly, all day long, really good crepes made with good ingredients. The team working here is friendly. A quick and easy way to feed a young crowd who doesn’t want to wait long and sit still. There is a discount for the ski instructor! it is such a rare thing, we thought we should mention it.

La Grande Ourse
13-Dec-09 , 0 commentsTel: +33(0)4 79 06 00 19 www.grande-ourse.com Highly recommended, an institution in Val d’Isere, this white chalet has been around since 1936. The terrace attracts many stars (or wannabe stars). Every day there is a different and very good value "plat du jour" for lunch. In the evening a more gastronomic menu is on offer. The service is friendly, even when the place is madly busy which happens on sunny days. Warm décor inside, great south facing terrace with deckchairs to sunbath

La Becca
13-Dec-09 , 0 commentsTel: + 33 (0)4 79 06 09 48 www.labecca-val.com At the bottom of the L piste near le Laisinant chairlift, in the Hamlet du Laisinant, you have to walk 2 or 3 minutes, it is signed posted. La Becca is also a 3 star hôtel. The chef Antony Tempesta has been trained with Marc Veyrat (Michelin Star) and shows creativity and professionalism in the elaboration of each recipe. The dining room is decorated in the local style. You will find that many ski guides bring their clients to eat here, which is generally a good sign. The service can be a bit slow some days. In the evening they have a more sophisticated menu. Booking is necessary as it is no longer a well kept secret. The chef has been recently awarded a star on the Michelin guide, one very good address in Val d'Isere.

At the top of the telepherique du Fornet there is a self service and a restaurant in the same building. The restaurant is small inside ( with a funky decoration) but has a south facing terrace. Food is excellent, well presented and original. Booking is advised, or plan to arrive late around 2pm if you have forgottent to do so.

L’Arolay
13-Dec-09 , 0 commentsTel: +33 (0)4 79 06 11 68 www.arolay.com At the bottom of the téléphérique du Fornet, in the hamlet, you have to walk for 3 minutes along the road towards Val d’Isere to find it on the left hand side. There are two rooms inside decorated in the local style. On a sunny day the terrace is really amazing. We recommend the « croute Savoyarde » It looks like a toast with souffle cheese on top, (we have not met one person who did not like it) The prices are very reasonable, the menu has many different types of food. Fondue , Braserades, but also salads, dish of the day, meal around a potato....

Bar De L’Ouillette
13-Dec-09 , 0 commentsTel: +33(0)4 79 41 94 74 www.louillette.fr At the bottom of the Madeleine express chairlift, you will find a little chalet. Known as " Chez Brigitte" by the locals. A large terrace, a great view over looking a frozen lake, and many many tables outside. The inside is so small that you never find a place to seat, there is a friendly atmosphere and on a sunny day the outdoor BBQ is great fun. On offer, quiches, soups, sandwiches to buy inside, there is not kitchen, all food is coming from Chevallot the local baker.

La Folie Douce/La Fruitiere
13-Dec-09 , 0 commentsTel: +33(0)4 79 06 01 47 www.lafoliedouce.com At the top of the telecabine de la Daille, Bellevarde sector, this place is convenient if meeting with a non skier or if you can't be bothered to ski after the party. A self service (La Folie Douce) and a restaurant (La Fruitiere) are under the same roof. The huge terrace host Dj's and live music every day from 12.30 to 16.50, people eat, drink and dance. It is really a night club, (or rather a day club), complete with sofas, long bar serving all sorts of alcoholic drinks, think "Ibiza" on the pistes.

Les Clochetons
13-Dec-09 , 0 commentsTel: +33(0)4 79 41 13 11 www.lesclochetons.fr At the end of the shuss of the Santons piste, on the right as you ski down, you will find Les Clochetons. You can also reach it with a little walk from the village or use the free shuttle bus (navette), which makes this place very handy if you wish to meet a non-skier for a meal. We recommend the meat cooked over an open fire. You will enjoy the huge sunny terrace for lunch and maybe have a snooze after lunch in one of the deck chair. In the evening they have a more sophisticated menu and will arrange to pick you up on request. There are many tables so it is rare to wait long to be seated.

The Triffolet
13-Dec-09 , 0 commentsTel: +33 (0)4 79 41 96 99 Half way down La Daille you will find a big wooden chalet with a very friendly team run by Noelle. The total opposite atmosphere to the Folie Douce above. The plat du jour is a good bet (try the petit sale aux lentilles!). It offers also pizzas and salads, hamburgers, pastas.... The dining room is on two levels with a chalet/refuge atmosphere. The terrace is perfectly placed for a bit of sun tanning, making the place a popular stop.
