You can eat quickly, all day long, really good crepes made with good ingredients. The team working here is friendly. A quick and easy way to feed a young crowd who doesn’t want to wait long and sit still. There is a discount for the ski instructor! it is such a rare thing, we thought we should mention it.

      La Grande Ourse

Tel: 04 79 06 00 19 www.grande-ourse.com Highly recommended, an institution in Val d’Isere, this white chalet has been around since 1936. The terrace attracts many stars (or wannabe stars). Every day there is a different and very good value "plat du jour" for lunch. In the evening a more gastronomic menu is on offer. The service is friendly, even when the place is madly busy which happens on sunny days. Warm décor inside, great south facing terrace with deckchairs to sunbath

    • La Becca

      La Becca

Tel: + 33 (0)4 79 06 09 48 www.labecca-val.com At the bottom of the L piste near le Laisinant chairlift, in the Hamlet du Laisinant, you have to walk 2 or 3 minutes, it is signed posted. La Becca is also a 3 star hôtel. The chef Antony Tempesta has been trained with Marc Veyrat (Michelin Star) and shows creativity and professionalism in the elaboration of each recipe. The dining room is decorated in the local style. You will find that many ski guides bring their clients to eat here, which is generally a good sign. The service can be a bit slow some days. In the evening they have a more sophisticated menu. Booking is necessary as it is no longer a well kept secret. The chef has been recently awarded a star on the Michelin guide, one very good address in Val d'Isere.

      L’Arolay

Tel: +33 (0)4 79 06 11 68 www.arolay.com At the bottom of the téléphérique du Fornet, in the hamlet, you have to walk for 3 minutes along the road towards Val d’Isere to find it on the left hand side. There are two rooms inside decorated in the local style. On a sunny day the terrace is really amazing. We recommend the « croute Savoyarde » It looks like a toast with souffle cheese on top, (we have not met one person who did not like it) The prices are very reasonable, the menu has many different types of food. Fondue , Braserades, but also salads, dish of the day, meal around a potato....

The large terrace has a great view over looking a frozen lake( called Ouillette, hence the name). The inside is so small that you never find a table but there is a friendly atmosphere and on a sunny day the outdoor BBQ is great fun. A young and good looking population colonises the place when the sun shines. The fun web site gives you an idea of the place.

It is really a night club, (or rather a day club), complete with sofas, long bar serving all sorts of alcoholic drinks, think Ibiza on the pistes. Next door, La Fruitiere, is quieter and more civilised.
